A Fun and Hip Ski Retreat in Tahoe, made by Antonio Martins.
A bachelor client, for whom we’ve worked with on two urban residential jobs, hired us to create a fun and stylish ski getaway in Tahoe.
A floor-to-ceiling cold-rolled steel fireplace, emphasized by artistJihoon Choi’s “Pixel Deer”, overlooks the main room. Floor-to-ceiling piled wood adjacent to the fireplace becomes a design element and hides the amusement center. The seating area is made up of large leather sectional and a pair of 1960s swivel seats by Thonet bought by the customer in Miami. Photography by Sharon Montrose and a mixed-media collage on a wood door made by Tim Weldon add a little whimsy. The dining room has a 7-foot recycled wood square table surrounded by classic Cassina Cab armchairs, able to accommodate up to 16 guests.
The powder room includes a live-edge floating shelf, a mirror Produced by Jacques Adnet and custom Union Square background by Crezana. The corridor leading to the bedrooms showcases 19th century albumen photos of the Tahoe area.
Each of five bedrooms has been given its own character: the burlap bedroom; the log bedroom; the grey bedroom; the antler bedroom and the master, with a round metal hanging seat overlooking the unobstructed view of the hills. A large vintage “resort” neon sign from the master bath adds nostalgia into the space.
The ideal mountain escape: a casual and inviting home to welcome the proprietor’s many guests.
